INVITATION FOR BID - CRUSHER

March 25th, 2013

Gravel, Concrete & Emulsion Production Corporation (GCEPC); the state owned sole producer and supplier of gravel aggregates in Grenada; was established in an Act of Parliament (Act 43 of 1986) by the Government of Grenada, Carriacou & Pettite Martinique to manage the exploitation of naturally occurring aggregate materials on the island including gravel (volcanic deposits) and stone.

The supply of sand previously came from mining the beaches of our island. In 2008, due to various pressures including rapid beach erosion and related environmental damages, high cost of construction of sea defense walls and reluctance from international donors to provide financing for same, the Government was forced to enforce legislation to discontinue this activity.

The Corporation owns over twenty-two (22) acres of gravel bearing lands that supply natural volcanic scoria sand, locally known as “Quarry Sand”; which can be produced by two (2) methods: screening and crushing. Currently, the Corporation relies solely on the screening of materials to produce sand; a method which on its own cannot supply the quantities and quality demanded by the public. The crusher can also be used to produce other sizes of aggregates.

Funding for that acquisition of a sand crusher machine for GCEPC has been granted by the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Grenada and the Government of Mexico in 2012.

A Tender for Supply document outlining the specifications of a sand crusher machine is open for bidding.

You are invited to submit a proposal on the Supply and Delivery of a Sand Crusher to The General Manager, Gravel, Concrete and Emulsion Production Corporation P.O. Box 769, Mon Rush, St. George’s Grenada or electronically to gmgravel@spiceisle.com. The deadline for submission is April 30th, 2013.

GCEPC would review all submissions within a two week period after submission date to determine the successful proposal specific to GCEPC needs.

PROPOSED PURCHASE OF NEW CRUSHER FOR INCREASED PRODUCTION OF
QUARRY SAND

Gravel, Concrete & Emulsion Production Corporation is presently considering plans for the expansion of quarry sand production through the purchase of a new crusher. We are attempting to develop the capacity to produce sand aggregate from the volcanic rock (gravel) as part of our programme of developing sustainable construction aggregate sources, improving the quality of construction material used, and ultimately reducing the extent of white sand importations.

Our current crusher only produces approximately 42 tons of Quarry Sand per hour which is far below the demand levels.

Our proposed new crusher will be capable of an output of approximately 100 tons of Quarry Sand per hour. In addition, unlike our current crusher, we can use any size gravel aggregates to produce fine quality sand.

100 LB BAGS OF GRAVEL

On September 9th 2009, Gravel, Concrete & Emulsion Production Corporation will launch 1/2" and 3/4" minus gravel in 100 lbs bags.

This follows an earlier introduction of our three types of sand also in 100 lbs bags:

  • Quarry Sand
  • Premium Quarry Sand
  • Imported White Sand

We understand that some construction jobs particularly small domestic jobs requires only a small quantity of aggregates. Previously, regardless of the job size, a minimum of 1 ton of aggregates needed to be purchased.

However, with the onset of 100 lbs bags of aggregates, small customers can now take advantage of the economic efficiencies of purchasing only what is needed.

DEVELOPMENT & INCREASED PRODUCTION OF CONCRETE PIPES

Gravel, Concrete & Emulsion Production Corporation is currently in pursuit of developing and increasing the production of culverts (concrete pipes). Currently, we produce and sell 12', 18' 24' and 30' culverts but our production methods are slow and our moldings needs to be modernized. We are in the process of sourcing a supplier for “steel molds” which is more durable and reliable than our current molding material.
